For the last few months, C and I have been reading a new book, The Easter Storybook from David C Cook. This is a storybook with 40 Bible stories that traces Jesus’s footsteps from being left at the temple as a boy until His ascension. It details many of Jesus’s miracles and parables.

This book was a great edition to our homeschool day. The book is hardcover and very sturdy which was very nice for a household with an 11 month old. The pages were very easy to read and kept C’s attention because there was a full page picture next to the story. I would have her point out different aspects from the stories in the pictures to not only make sure she was paying attention but to help her with comprehension.

My favorite part of the book was the questions at the end of the story. This is great especially for older children to not only make sure they were listening but also understanding. C didn’t understand some of the questions so I had to adapt them but she is also 3 years old.

I also really loved that in the different stories, there is explanation for the more “religious” words or phrases or concepts. This is great because as adults we tend to forget that children don’t know anything about the Bible or any type of “religious” words, phrases, or concepts unless we teach them! This book made it easy to explain those concepts to C. For example, in Jesus Loves Zacchaeus, the book explains that a tax collector in Jesus’s time would be hated because not only would he take the money needed for the government but that he “kept their money for himself.” This makes it easier for C to understand the culture of that time that are very important to the story.

I also really loved the C loved this book! She would go and grab it throughout the day and read it to herself. She will tell me that it was a book about Jesus. I love watching her grow in her faith and understanding and I love learning from her too!

I can’t wait to finish this book with her on Easter and explore the true meaning of Easter this year!
