I was super excited to have received a great new book called The Adventures of Rooney Cruz RINGLEADERS from Truth Becomes Her. Because the book was not shipped right away, we were given a pdf version of the book to start reading right away. This was amazing because my daughter was excited to start reading the story. When our package finally arrived, I was surprised with not only the book but also a devotional, a journal for me and my daughter, and a coloring book.
Book

The book was a large hardback book. It is very sturdy which is great in a house with a 4 year old and an 18 month old. The only issue was it was slightly hard to hold and read at the same time with the 4 year old in your lap! I ended up having her sit on the floor and rest it on our legs to read better.
The story was great. In summary, Mari, the angel, takes Rooney, the main character, to look at window snap shots of stories of woman in the New Testament. Rooney learns from these woman and takes these lessons into her real life.
One of my favorite aspects of this book is that it starts with the birth of Jesus and John and goes all the way through the New Testament to end with Jesus’ resurrection. This will be a great book to read after Christmas and before Easter so that the reader get a full picture of Jesus’ ministry. I think I am going to use this book as the backdrop to our Bible studies during this period in the upcoming months. It will be a great way to connect these stories to real life for my daughter again.
Another great aspect of this book is the illustrations. I absolutely love them. They are cartoonlike, but have every aspect of bringing the woman in the Bible to life. Also for a young reader, the fact that there is an image almost every page kept her attention.
My daughter absolutely loved this book and asked for us to read it at nap time and at bed time until we finished it. I was hoping to stretch it a few weeks, but she wanted more and more. We finished it within a week. I even found her asleep at night with the book.

Extra Materials
As I stated before, we received a few extra materials to use along side this book. This was a great surprise.
Coloring Book

This coloring book was great. There were over 5 pictures per chapter!!! This is great especially if you have more than one daughter or a daughter who wants to color a lot!! C has done a few coloring pages here and there and she enjoys them. As we work through the book again, I might have her work on the Bible verse pictures to practice the verses more.
Devotional and Journal
We did not use these books yet because they seemed to be a bit older than C’s age. They are a great way to extend the book to help girls understand the stories better.

In the devotional, there are 7 days of devotions per story in the book. Each devotion is about 2 pages long and super easy to read. Most of the devotions also have an activity to do with your child. This is great because it is easy to make interactive and not just a ton of extra reading. I believe this devotional will be great when C is in first or second grade, so I am saving it to use later.
The journal also was made for older girls so we did not actually use it. I love that there is a space for you and your daughter to write and draw answers to different questions for each woman in the Bible. I also love that it integrates both writing and drawing. I will probably use this again when C is in first or second grade along with the devotional. The questions in the journal are more open ended than the devotional which allows for more freedom in thought. The questions for the mom mirror the questions for the daughter which can lead to some great discussions. I would say it would be good to do one or two questions a day after the devotional to allow time to get through all the questions before moving onto the next character. It might also be good to have the daughter do her questions first and then the mom read the girl’s answers and respond to them in discussion through the week.
We loved these books so much, we are looking at getting C the other Truth Becomes Her books for Christmas. She really enjoyed the book and the coloring pages so we are adding the other set to her Christmas list!
