About a month ago, I was provided a 3 month subscription Musik at Home Membership from Musik at Home a we have been starting our days with different types of the music programs including baby programs to the family programs.

Favorite Videos

We loved these videos. I would play one in the morning. We loved the Family Music for Mixed Ages. There was usually some shakers or scarves that the kids got to play with during the class. We do not have a set of scarves or rhythm sticks and sometimes we couldn’t find all the shakers (life with toddlers right?) so we used what we could. Here we are using rattles for shakers and we also used baby blankets for scarves and popsicle sticks for rhythm sticks. I loved that even though we didn’t always have the correct supplies we could still participate.

I really enjoyed these family videos because it would involve by C and D. I was able to participate with both of them during it.

We also enjoyed the Babies and Toddlers series. These were geared more towards D, but C would participate as well. She loved being a “big” kid and helping me with D. She was very patient with him. One thing I would like to point out is that the crib in the video has bumpers which are not safe for sleep. This made me uncomfortable because they are not safe for sleep.

The shorter videos in this series also provide some instructions mainly for adults, but the little ones would enjoy listening to it. These would be great for a short period you need to fill in during the day.

Other Series

There are other series in this program as well. There is a Family Music Series for ages 4-7. We didn’t do this program together as a family because they seemed a bit older for D and I wanted both to participate. These were made for children that could really sit still and listen. It was set up more like a preschool class would be set up. I do like that there was more of a discussion added to this program as well as some art. The kids drew to music and sounds. This really helps children develop their skills in a different way so they don’t really know they are learning music skills. I will try to add some of these in the afternoon with C for a while to see if she can understand them. They are also longer than the other series we watched.

There is also a middle of the road Family Music for Preschoolers ages 3-5. These seem to be more advanced than the Mixed Ages series, but not as advanced as the Family Music Series for ages 4-7. I think these might be the perfect next step for C. They incorporate more information, but there is not as much musical skills development.

There are also a lot of stand alone videos in each series if you want a short quick experience. These would be great if you need to fill a small amount of time and teach a specific skill or song. These would also be great for a parent to practice skills that are shown in the longer videos.

Favorite Aspects

First off, the website was super easy to navigate. When you log in, you see this screen. Each series is listed out for you to easily access. This makes it super easy to navigate. We usually watched by streaming to our TV and even on my phone this main page was easy to navigate.

We had already been streaming for a while from the website and then they released an app! This was even better!! The app navigates the same as the website. There is also a place to create a playlist if you wanted a quick place to find the next video you wanted to do with your child. You can also download them for offline viewing. This is amazing so you could even do the videos on the go. I have saved a few videos into My List so that I know what we are going to do next. I also downloaded these so that if I am not on wifi we could still watch them.

You also can stream to your Smart TV, but our TV was not compatible. This is a common problem for us as we have an older Smart TV. Also if you had a Chromecast you can stream through that system. I was able to use a program I have on my phone to broadcast to my Roku though. This worked perfectly from the website and the app. I did keep my phone plugged in to make sure I didn’t drain my battery. I would love to see a Roku app in the future to help with streaming in our situation.
