A few weeks ago I was blessed to receive a 6 month subscription to Smart Kidz Radio: Member’s On-Demand Radio Program Library. This is a web based radio program. The library contains a wide variety of music and other programs for you and your family.

Features and Stations

Smart Kidz Radio has a wide variety of radio stations for your family. We listened to stories, classical music, world music, patriotic music and learning music.

One of my favorites was the classical music. We used this while we worked on school work as it wasn’t very distracting. It was exactly what we needed. We also played some of the stories after school work was done for the day. One of C’s favorite was the Halloween story called Noises in the Attic. She loved listening to it as it was “scary” in her words (but not really). We also loved listening to some traditional fairy tales.

I did not find any music I did not like to have on during the day. It was fun introducing C to different types of music that she normally wouldn’t choose. I also liked that there was some music for D as well. We listened to some learning music that was more for him.

Also they are constantly adding more music and stories throughout the year. There is a coming soon section on the home page so you can get your kids excited about the new selections. The amount of music and stories and the fact that it constantly is being updated makes it worth the annual membership fee of $49.99 for my family.

Navigation

I mainly used the computer to stream the music as you have to use the website. On the main page, there is a quick selection area where you can just click on a topic or type of music you want to listen to. This is what we used the most. There was so much to look through there that we just stuck to those options. There is also a search on the top of the main page where you can search for a specific radio station if you are looking for something. This function worked for me, but I not knowing what I wanted to listen to was the road block for this function.

I would have liked would be to be able to play it from our smart devices so an app would be great. An app would have allowed me to play it on my phone and stream it to our Alexa and our Roku easier. I also would have liked to be able to download some songs onto my phone for offline listening as we don’t use cellular for streaming so we were limited to only using it at home.

Foundation

One cool feature of this program is that they have the Smart Kidz Foundation.

“A profit portion from Smart Kidz Radio’s membership fees will be donated to the Smart Kidz Foundation—a non-profit foundation that will offer educational scholarships and financially support programs that give opportunities for young people to follow their dreams and make a difference in the world.”

This is super cool because I am not only exposing my kids to great music, I am able to help others at the same time. We know young people have the hope for our world in their eyes, but sometimes life gets in they way. This foundation provides ways for young people to work through and around their obstacles to make a difference for tomorrow.
