This week in review will be kind of slow with the preschooler, C, in lessons 31-35 in Abeka and the toddler learning about the color yellow. We did our Bible lessons of Samuel Listening to God, and David and Goliath.
Sunday
Today we went to church for the second service. D did really well in his class. They pushed him around in the car the entire time and he was not crying (I won’t say he was happy). C went to Children’s Church like that is where she always went. She loves being a big kid. After church we went into town and had Buffalo Wild Wings. Oh my I forgot how much I love going there on a Sunday during football season. It was so much fun and really good food! After we got home, I had to go to the grocery store and then we headed off to bible study.
Monday
Today we did school early. C was begging to do school as soon as breakfast was over, so I grabbed a cup of coffee and headed downstairs. We both did school in our pjs! She did great. After we finished, we headed upstairs for a snack and then headed outside for some play time. In the afternoon, we started working on our L language development projects. We learned how to draw a ladybug! We also started a ladybug painting project. C is making ladybugs with paint by herself. Today we started by using red paint and a circle to stamp their bodies. Tomorrow we will add a head and then later we will add their spots and legs.
Tuesday
Today we didn’t get as quick of a start, but we started our day with our Musik for Home class (review in 2 weeks for y’all). C actually participated today. We improvised our shakers with one egg shaker (that D was eating) and some baby rattles (C used) and another toy that rattled. It was funny, but I went with it because C participated. We then went to the park for awhile. C loves to ride her bike to the park. After the park, we did a bit of school. C is learning the letter L this week so she had to find the letter in some words I had written on the board. We also used this time to review the letter T. D also had a great activity today, I made him a YELLOW sensory bag. He didn’t like it! He would touch it and hand it back saying “all done.” We will be working on yellow for a while. Here is our activities for RED. I will be doing another post soon with all our YELLOW activities.
This afternoon, we painted pumpkins. Oh my that was fun! The entire time was spent telling D it was okay that there was paint on the table and to paint his pumpkin. Check out the Instagram post for the crazy adventure. Both kids had a blast and their pumpkins looked super cute. Tip: to get the washable paint to stick, add glue to the paint (it really worked)!
Wednesday
Today we went downstairs early to do school again. It has helped us get going a little more if I start school a bit earlier. We learned our L blends today. C helped me write them on the board. We also worked on saying them faster. C has an issue (very common) of saying the letter sounds separate and not knowing how to actually make one sound out of two. I am working on it with her, but it will come in time. We also did some sight words work that I found on My Teaching Library (read my review here). I don’t like to teach too many sight words as Abeka teaches how to sound out words and traditional phonics to help students decode more on their own, but there are some words that just need to be learned so I pulled those out. We started with “the” today. C had this word already in her Reading Eggs game (read my review here) so I thought it was a great place to start. We also have been integrating Bob Books into our days too. In the evening C and I went to church for our kids ministry group. She had a blast. She is learning so much.
Thursday
Today D had a doctors appointment in the morning. The kids did very good with this especially because of all the COVID restrictions. After leaving the appointment, I drove through McDonald’s and grabbed a quick lunch. We took our lunch and went to the library park for a picnic. It was kinda windy, but still fun. The kids were so excited. We played for a while and then went and got new books and movies from the library. I am very thankful that our library is allowing us to go in and get books again. We will be super happy once they bring back story time and all the toys, but I am thinking that will be a while! After rest time, C and I went outside for a sound hunt and then play time. She had so much being outside by herself. We did hopscotch to practice counting and skipping numbers. We practiced our blends by jumping on them. We listened for different things on our sound hunt. Then some friends came over to play for a bit before we had to go get D up so everyone could get ready to take C to ballet.
Friday
We had a super fun Friday. We went to Auburn, NE to find some bee sculptures with the Honeybees in the Heartland. We had so much fun. We went to eat at a Mexican restaurant and then over to a park. There was a bee at the park for us to look at. C loved it! She really loves sculptures right now. This park we went to was super cute. It was made for little ones which was soo nice. The main playground was shaped like a train! There was also a giant tank for the kids to look at. The best part was there was a merry-go-round at the park. The kids loved it!
Saturday
Today we did a lot of picking up at our house. We have family coming in a few weeks for the kids birthday parties and we are having the house cleaned this week since we have lived here a little over a year. So cleaning is what we did! We also installed C’s “big kid” car seat. She has been rear facing since she was born and is super excited to be finally able to see out. You would have thought we gave her a million dollars ho w excited she was for this new carseat!
