This week we really got down to doing school. We did school everyday which is a big improvement for us after the Holidays. I feel as though I am constantly playing catch up. We focused on the color purple with D and C did all different learning experiences.

Monday

A toddler boy is sitting at a table with an open sensory bin in front of him. In the sensory bin, there is rice that has been dyed purple. There are multiple measuring cups and spoons in the sensory bin. The toddler boy is using one of the measuring cups to pick up some purple rice.

Today, D started the day by playing in his purple rice sensory bin. He loved dumping and scooping the rice over and over and over again. Then he threw it on the floor. After some quick redirection, he went back to dumping and scooping. C worked on some CVC words this morning. She is learning her blends, but I am struggling with finding fun ways to help her with these besides just flashcards. I found this cute activity from 123Homeschool4Me! There is a hat with a picture and then C had to find the right snowman parts to spell the word. After she builds the word with the snowman pieces, she writes the word on a piece of paper. She loves this! We worked on doing 5 words today! She also made a kitty cat puppet and worked on her handwriting. In the afternoon, I finally put away Christmas decorations. C found it fun to line up all the Barbie ornaments so they could do their “ballet class” while the ballet Barbie ornament led the class. She had fun and no ornaments were broken!

Tuesday

Today we went to the Zoo!! We bought a membership last week so now we can go all the time! We went with some friends today. It was a bit cold, but not too bad. The worst part was that D was playing on a mound of dirt and fell. He ended up with mud all over him!! I had to change his clothes and clean him up in the bathroom. We can’t wait to go back to the zoo over and over again!

Wednesday

Today, C had her baking class again. She made granola bars. I felt like I am getting the hang of entertaining D while she has her class. We also worked on some school work after her class, but we didn’t do too much!

Thursday

Today started by doing some painting. I made some puffy paint by combining shaving cream, glue and paint. D used purple paint first to paint his purple jam jar coloring page from Abeka’s Nursery Arts & Crafts book. He loved it! C painted with brown (don’t ask that is the color she wanted). They loved it. They ended up switching colors and painting more!!

Friday

Today was a rough day!!! D has really turned into a toddler and is not being cooperative during school time. We started the day by trying to color, but instead he threw all the markers on the floor. I gave him a sensory bin of corn to play with, but looked over and he was dumping about a cup of corn on the floor. I just kept at it with him while C did all her school work. He ended up in time out twice (which is him just sitting in his crib for a minute or so so that I can clean up or calm down). This is enough for him to understand what he did was wrong. It isn’t a crazy amount of time, but just enough! Once we finished school for the day, I put a long piece of white paper on the floor and gathered some paint in our paint pans. I gave each child some cars and they rolled the cars all over the paper. D loved this!! He calmed down and painted for a long time!

The biggest win this week was doing school everyday!!! We had fun at the zoo and doing a lot of hands on experiences at home.

  1. Sounds like a fun and normal week with a toddler, lol. Have you used paint sticks (Kwik Stix?) They’re amazing and toddler love to use them because they’re easy and glide on. They remind me of a glue stick, which Zeke loves.
