This week we had a ton of snow so we did a ton of school!!! We finally got out of the house at the end of the week and even had a playdate!

Monday

A toddler boy is standing in front of a child's art easel. He is using a dry erase marker to color on the dry erase board.

So today we knew the snow was coming! My husband was supposed to start his Spring Semester at the local university (teaching), but it was closed!! This never happens in Nebraska, but the school districts and the university were closed today!! We stayed down in the basement all morning so my husband could work upstairs. We did school work and D colored a ton!! He has discovered the dry erase markers and loves to color with them! He colored on our big white board and our little one too. C did al her school work in the morning and then played for a while. We ended up with 14.5 inches of snow total!!! It was insane. My husband went out around 4 to start shoveling the snow because at that point we had about 10-11 inches. Luckily our neighbor saw him out there and came out with his snow blower and cleared our sidewalks and our driveway! It was super nice. After they worked, we still ended up with another few inches. In the evening, we had a FaceTime meeting with a local dog rescue (we are looking at getting a new dog)!! We haven’t told the kids anything yet, but we are moving forward to get one from this rescue.

Tuesday

A little girl is laying on the floor writing on a worksheet on a book. On her worksheet, she is tracing cursive x letters with a pen.

So since we ended up with all the snow yesterday, the university closed for a second day. This is really unheard of- I don’t think they closed at all last year for any snow! So off to the basement we went! We started our morning with painting. C also worked on a snowman art project (super fitting) and then finished up her school work. Today we ended up doing it on the floor on a book, well, because she could. C went out with her daddy for a bit to help shovel the rest of the snow. Luckily another neighbor of ours saw him out there shoveling and came out to help with his snowblower!! We have been amazed by these lovely neighbors and will invest in a snowblower next year!

Wednesday

Daddy finally had to go into work today, but he said the roads were horrible! When the roads are bad, he takes our SUV because it has 4wheel drive, so we were stuck at home again! But today we broke out and went for a walk. It was so nice to just be outside. The sidewalks were not great so C couldn’t ride her bike or scooter. She wanted the double stroller, but ended up walking for most of it. When we got home I let them play for a bit outside, D couldn’t walk in it, but C loved it!

A little girl is sitting in a yard full of snow making snowballs. There is a toddler boy on the sidewalk playing int he edge of the snow.

Thursday

A little girl is sitting on a flowery towel with a bin of snow in front of her. Beside her are three small containers of colored water (two on one side and one on the other side). The little girl is using a pipette to drop colored water onto the snow.

Today we stayed home again because my husband needed our SUV. We started our day with Legos though. I was helping C build a robot and D was not having it. So he climbed up into the other chair and started building too! It was super cute and insane because I had to watch him and help her at the same time. We then started our measurement math unit. We don’t have unix cubes, but we have these inch squares my mom gave me from when she taught school so we used those to measure different fall objects (printable found at Mrs. A’s Room). C loved this! After school work, we had some snow play in our sensory bin! D just kept dumping it and dumping water onto the snow, but C was mixing colors and trying to figure out new colors to drop onto her snow.

Friday

Today we had some friends come over for a playdate! We love having our friends over to play because there is always new adventures and mommy gets an adult to talk to!

It looks like we can finally leave the house this weekend and we are so excited. This snow will be here for a long time!

  1. Wow I can’t even imagine that amount of snow! Sounds like a fun week, and I’m excited to hear about the new dog when y’all get it! We love Unifex linking cubes and use them all the time for all kinds of things.
