There are some simple hands-on toddler blue activities you can add to your day right now. They don’t take long to set up, and they’re easy to fit into your routine.
Why teaching the color red to toddlers
Knowing colors might seem simple to us, but for toddlers, it is the first step toward understanding more complex ideas. Learning to identify colors and their names helps with math, language, science, art, and more! These basic skills lay the foundation for more complex skills later on. Recognizing colors also helps toddlers with sorting, matching, and understanding the world around them. Want to know more, click here!

Blue Coloring Pages for Toddlers
Starting with one blue coloring page a day is a great way to begin teaching the color. We used coloring pages from Abeka.com’s Nursery Arts and Crafts book, My Teaching Library, and other websites. I highly recommend the Jumbo Crayons 8-pack from Crayola as a starter crayon. These are perfect for little hands. For the next step, try Fine Line Markers from Crayola. They are smaller, which helps toddlers focus their grip on smaller objects. These toddler blue activities are a fun and easy way to reinforce the color while developing fine motor skills.

Blue Sensory Bin
Another great toddler activity for teaching colors is to create sensory bins for the color blue.
DIY Kinetic Sand
Supplies:
- Sensory Bin
- Oil
- Food Coloring
- Flour (pre bake if your child is still putting things in their mouth)
Directions:
- Add about 2 cups or so of flour to the bin.
- Create a hole in the flour and add about a 1/4 cup of oil and a few drops of food coloring.
- Mix it all together (use your hands it is easier).
- Add more oil and food coloring until the desired texture and color is achieved.
- Add scoops/spoons/cups and more to play!

Sea Foam
Supplies:
Directions:
- Add water, and a few drops of food coloring and a small amount of dish soap to the blender and mix!
- Add more dish soap until the foam is what you want.
- Add a small amount of corn starch until it is more stable when you pull your hands through it.
- Add it to your sensory bin and add some toys.

Blue Painting Activities
Painting is another one of my favorite activities to teach the color blue to a toddler. You can let them paint freely or try painting on foil. If you use foil, add a drop or two of dish soap to the paint. This helps it stick better! Once the blue paint dries, add ocean stickers to create an underwater scene.

Want other color experiences?
I found a great Etsy shop called MyFullHeartShop that has lots of color activities for toddlers. I have a pompom bunny matching game that my toddlers love. I also saw a car color matching game that looks really fun! When we play these games, I repeat the colors over and over to help toddlers make connections.

I love that you’re teaching D the signs for the colors. That’s pretty neat! Love all of the ideas.
yeah…the signs are not that hard. We use the Signing Time videos on Youtube to learn them!
