Letter M Activities for Toddlers and Preschoolers

This week we are doing letter M activities. We are focusing on Mexico, manners, magnets, measuring, monkeys and mice.

We started the letter M activities with our sensory bins. We matched pictures hidden in rice to the same sheet. In the sensory bin, I hid an upper and lower case M as well as pictures of a monkey, milk, moon, money, mittens, mice, and magnets.

We followed our sensory bin with an M coloring page from Twistynoodle.com. C (2 years old) did a great job coloring the picture with her markers. Of course with any toddler, she colored her hands a lot too! To practice colors at the end of coloring, we matched the lids to the markers as we clean up.

Another great activity is this Dot and Color Activity from My Teaching Library. Read my review of My Teaching Library here. We used our Do a Dot Art Markers as well as crayons to color the letters. As we colored, I repeated the letter and the sound.

Mexico

This is one of my favorite countries we talk about. To celebrate Mexico, we colored the flag of Mexico as well as FaceTimed with my best friend for a special story time. She read to my kids in Spanish because I can’t speak Spanish at all. We also watched videos of Spanish songs and of course ate TACOS!

Manners

To teach the letter M we did activities on manners. I had C and D set the table with plates, cups, forks, and spoons. I then practiced saying please and thank you in picking out which snacks they wanted to eat. After everyone was served we ate our snack and practiced all our great table manners like chewing with our mouths closed, not talking while chewing, keeping our elbows off the table, etc. They had a great time with our hands-on approach to practicing our table manners.

Magnets

Another one of my favorite letter M activities is playing with magnetiles. We build all different types of items. We build houses, we build castles, we build rainbows, we build trains, etc. Your imagination can go wild. Grab your set by clicking on below.

Measuring

Our letter M activity for measuring was helping make dinner. C measured out all the ingredients and helped mix the batter. Since dinner required a hot stove, mommy had to cook the pancakes while the littles watched.

Monkeys

We focused on monkeys. For our letter M activities, we made a paper plate monkey. C was able to paint the paper plate all brown. After it dried she added a nose, mouth, eyes and ears to finish the monkey.

We also made our M is for Monkey Craft. We first cut out the M and the smaller pieces with the cutting machine. We glued the m down first. Next we put the orange ears on followed by the pink inside of the ears. We added the tail and googly eyes. It is so much fun to see the differences between each child’s art work as this is meant to be their own interpretation of making a monkey out of an M. Mice
