This week we are focusing on the letter B and learning about bears, butterflies, birds, and busses/boats. We follow the Abeka 3s program which can be bough here.
Monday
This week started by learning the letter B. We traced the letter Bs on the chalkboard. She is getting better at tracing the letters. We made our own B is for Bee. Grab your template here!

She colored the flowers and the bee hive and helped me put the bee on the string. She loved moving the bee back and forth on the string.
Tuesday

We focused on Bears today! We counted the bears on the poster as well as compared and contrasted them. I had some counting bears that I was given a while back that we pulled out. We organized the counting bears by color on a graph. There were more bears than the graph could hold so we worked through continuing our lines. She did great. We also counted the bears once we finished lining them up and decided which color had more bears and which had less bears. We also started working on patterns. She knows patterns from TV shows she watches, but we have never worked on any. She caught on after a few tries. We will work on patterns again soon because she did enjoy it.
Wednesday

Today we focused on Butterflies. We talked about the different colors that butterflies could become. We learned that butterflies come from caterpillars.
We also talked about pollination and how butterflies (and bees) pollinate flowers and that is how flowers grow. Check out the post here about that activity. We also created the letter B out of tissue paper and laminator paper. I got the idea from Crystal and Co. I cut out the letter B (after 2 tries) and placed it on laminator paper. I had C put pieces of tissue paper on it and then I laminated it. BUT, I did not check to make sure I had her do it backwards, so we have a backwards B butterfly. Oh well! We also did our worksheet from the curriculum and glued small pieces of paper to make the letter Bs.
Thursday
On Thursday we focused on birds! We talked about different types of birds and different colors of birds. We colored two birds on our worksheet. C is getting better at coloring more of the pictures.

We then went upstairs to do a sensory bin with bird seed. A few weeks ago, I bought bird seed for co-op but ended up buying a 10lb bag because it was the cheapest. So needless to say when birds came up we were going to do a bird seed sensory bin. C absolutely loved it! She asked for it all week and during the weekend too! We also made a bird feeder with honey and a toilet paper roll. She was impressed that she got to spread the honey using a butter knife. She did a great job. I hung it outside, but we don’t have any trees, so I had to hang it on the playground.
Friday
We didn’t go to co-op because we were all sick with a nasty cold so we finished our week by learning about buses and boats. We glued pieces of paper on our letter Bs on our worksheets again. We also colored a boat in our art book. She did a very good job coloring all the different parts of the boat the different colors. We also made a Button Bear puppet. She loved this, but the bag was slightly too big for her arm which made the puppet part hard to do.
We also used our sensory bin to discover if different toys sunk in water or floated on water. I explained that float means that the toy stayed on the top of the water and sunk meant it went to the bottom. She did not quite get this right away and it didn’t help all the toys we picked floated except the ball. She loved this activity and then played in the water for a while. She was covered in water when she got ready for lunch.
