This week we got a new dog!! We are all super excited about our new addition and so school work wasn’t a priority this week.
Monday
Today we ran errands because we knew Tuesday would be dog day! We went to Coscto and then grabbed lunch from Chick fil A. We didn’t do any school work because the Costco trip wore mommy out!
Tuesday
It is DOG DAY!! If you didn’t know we had to put our wonderful German Shepherd down about 2 years ago (right before I had D) because of a strange freak accident. You can read about that here. We went out to the rescue early in the morning because we had to be there by 10am. We hadn’t told C about getting a dog until we were on our way. She was sooo excited. We met a young adult German Shepherd who was super cute and super playful. He was great with the kids and just needed a few reminders not to jump. We then met a puppy Labrador Retriever. He had SOOO much energy! We decided he would be too much work with both kids during the day. We then met a young adult Great Pyrenees. She was super sweet and super chill! She just wanted to be loved on! We decided she was the one for us. Side note-we didn’t even think about looking at her until we got there because no one had mentioned her yet, we thought we would come home with the Lab puppy. So our new dog is named Meredith (which was a great coincidence since I went to Meredith College) and just turned 3 years old.
She has been super chill with the kids running all around her. She could care less about noise and movement which is great with a 4 year old and a 1.5 year old. She hasn’t even barked yet! She has met some friends of ours and did great with them.

Wednesday
Today we got back to school work. I had bought some paint sticks over the weekend and we finally pulled them out today. Both the kids love them. Click on the image from Crayola below to get your own.
We painted for a long time today. D did his last purple picture and C painted some landscape pictures. She loves to paint and I love these paint sticks because they are quick dry. C also did her Bible, handwriting, and some math. We are doing hands on math this week learning about length, weight and volume. Next week she will take her test on these and is almost done with math for the year! I need to go look for her a new math book soon as she only has 4 chapters left! It goes much quicker when you can do a chapter a week instead of a chapter a month like a classroom setting. I think we are going to try a first grade math book, but just take it slow!

Thursday

Today we did school in the morning and just hung out at the house. C did a project to weigh items with our scale. She found toys around the playroom to weigh. She figured out what toys weighed a lot and was closer to the ground vs. items that weighed little and were away from the ground. She loved this and it was very easy to introduce the concept of weight. You can do this at your home too just grab a scale and have your child have toys all over the house to compare. Need a scale click on the one below from Discount School Supplies:
Friday
Today we started our day with some volume water play. I measured out the same amount of water into different containers and placed them in the sensory bins. I had C guess which one had the most and least amount of water. I then had her measure them out. It was all the same! We then used measuring cups to fill the containers to the top and see which one held the most water. This was a great and concrete way for C to learn volume. The kids then did a lot of water play in their sensory bins! This was D’s favorite thing to do! We then went downstairs to finish school work for the day!

I hope you had a great week too! This weekend we are getting more snow and we have the Super Bowl so we are just hunkering down for the weekend!
