Unit Seven of Teaching the Bible (a 12-month complete Bible curriculum with hands-on lessons for toddlers and preschoolers), teaches a toddler and preschool child all about the Early Church. By the end, your preschoolers and toddlers will know that We are all a Part of God’s Family and We Help Each Other.
Lesson Overview
There are 4 hands-on Bible lessons for a preschooler or toddler in this unit on the Early Church: The Holy Spirit Comes, The Early Church, Paul’s Conversion, and Peter Escapes Prison. Each lesson has 6 hands-on activities for little ones and should last about a week each. There are two memory verses for little ones to learn during this unit. These memory verses have motions and posters to help memorize the verses.

Lesson 1: The Holy Spirit Comes
This first lesson about the Early Church is The Holy Spirit Comes and should last about a week in a homeschool setting or one week for church. Your child will learn about when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in the locked room at Penecost. The goal of this lesson is that your child will know that We are a part of God’s Family and We can Help Each Other.
My favorite activity from this lesson is the Shaving Cream Fire Painting. This activity is a process art project where your child will mix colors in shaving cream. They will then transfer it onto paper and have a cool project. This can teach color mixing as well as the concepts from the story.
Lesson 2: The Early Church
This lesson on the Early Church should last about a week in a homeschool setting or one week for church. Your child will learn about the first church that is described at the end of Acts 2. The goal of this lesson is that your child will know that We are a part of God’s Family and We can Help Each Other.
One of my favorite activitis from this lesson is called Building a Church. This activity requires you to just build a church building with your child. As you build you discuss what happens in the story and what constitutes the “church.”
Lesson 3: Paul’s Conversion
This lesson on Paul’s Conversion should last about a week in a homeschool setting or one week for church. Your child will learn how Paul met God on the road to Damascus as well as meeting with Ananias. The goal of this lesson is that your child will know that We are a part of God’s Family and We can Help Each Other.
My favorite activity from this lesson is Conversion Explained. This allows you to use science to explain what a conversion is to your child. This can be an abstract idea to young children and this activity helps it to make more sense to young children.
Lesson 4: Peter Escapes Prison
The forth lesson in the Early Church unit of toddler and preschool bible curriculum is about Peter Escapes Prison and should last about a week in homeschool or one week at church. This lesson teaches your little one about when the angel helps Peter escape prison as told in Acts 12. The goal of this lesson is that your child will know that We are a part of God’s Family and We can Help Each Other.
My favorite activity from this lesson is Bound by Chains. In this activity, your child will make a craft as well as retell the story to you. This will better help them to understand the concepts from the story as they are having to figure out how to act them out! This activity is also easily adaptable to many ages. Premake the chain (and multiple ones) for a young toddler to reenact the story over and over again. Have an older child make the chains for a younger sibling. Have an older child make a pattern as they make their chain. So many different ways to extend this activity for each age.
