This week we learned the letter U. We focused on Upton Umbrette and underground animals, umbrellas and we also learned about number 14. We also reviewed some Noah’s Ark.
Upton Umbrette
We started our week by learning about Upton Umbrette. An umbrette is a bird that lives in Africa. He has a crest on the top of his head that looks like of like a hammer, so umbrettes are sometimes called hammerhead birds. We learned how to write the letter U. This was a very easy letter for C. She did a great job writing it herself. We also made our own U is for Umbrella Bird craft. Get template below!

Underground Animals
We learned about different animals that live underground. We talked about a mole, ants, snails, snakes, earthworms, chipmunks, spiders, etc. Our favorite thing to learn about was how they make burrows or tunnels underground. We then made our own tunnel. We used blankets and chairs and the couch to make a tunnel. C had a blast! She loved this and we left it up for a few days. She kept playing in it. D, on the other hand, was not having it! He only went through it once and then he was done.
Umbrella
We also talked about umbrella and how it starts with the letter U. We made our own umbrella by gluing the umbrella parts to the correct colors and then finger-painting rain drops on the umbrella and the sky. You can find this activity in the 3s curriculum from Abeka.
Noah’s Ark
We watched the bible story of Noah’s Ark on the computer. I highlighted that God promised never to flood the earth again by placing a rainbow in the sky. We then made our own rainbow and glued Noah’s ark down to our worksheet. C is doing much better about coloring and staying between the lines.
