This week, in preschool, we learned the letter N! We focused on narwhals, night, names, nurse, and neighbor.
N is for Narwhals
We learned about narwhals. They are whales that have a long tooth that sticks out of their mouth to form a tusk. We learned a little about Narwhals last year when we did our N week, but this year we also learned how to write an N. C did a great job tracing her letter N. We also made our own N is for Narwhal craft. Find your template here!
Night
We talked about Night! C loves the night because she can see the moon. She loves the moon. We read Goodnight Moon and did some of our activities from our Storybook Learning: Goodnight Moon article.
We also created a starry night painting with white and yellow paint. C used q-tips to paint dots or stars in the night sky (the black paper). We also had out black paint so she wanted to use some of that too. We had a discussion about the fact that the black paint didn’t show up good on the black paper. She finally understood that she had to us a color to make it show up. She also liked making “big stars” by not just dabbing the q-tip but by making circles.
Names
We learned about names as well. C already knows her name and pretty much can spell it. We created a cute craft where she used stickers to write her name down a moon and we hung a star from the top. This was a different way that we had never done before. She did great. She spelled her name on her own. Our next step with our name is to start writing it ourselves. I think C can do it, but it will take practice.
Nurse
We talked about nurses this week also. We pretended to nurse one of our animals back to health. We talked about the fact that nurses help doctors or veterinarians to help people or animals feel better. We also colored our nurse coloring page.
Neighbor
We talked about being a neighbor this week. We focused on helping others around us. We discussed the fact that we have physical neighbors as well as others around us that we can help. This was a perfect discussion since we were already stuck inside for COVID 19. We talked about different ways we could help our neighbors right now!
Next week we will focus on different countries as we review our letters so far!
Such cute ideas you always have! We learned about narwhals a few months back and the kids thought it was so funny that their “horn” was actually a tooth! In fact did you know that Vikings used to sell the teeth as unicorn horns? They said they could detect poison in food! And only the males have the “horn”.
