Dexter Donkey Week - Teaching with Faith

This week we are focusing on letter D! We talked about donkeys, ducks, dogs, and doctors/dentists. We learned about number 3. We read the Bible story of Hannah praying for a son!

Dexter Donkey

Dexter Donkey is our letter D friend through the Abeka curriculum. We learned how to write the letter D and traced them on the board. We made our own D is for Donkey Craft. Grab your template here! C had a blast making her own Donkey.

Ducks

We learned about ducks! We love ducks in our family so this was super fun. We sang the song 6 Little Ducks. Here is a cute video from Little Baby Bum on Youtube. We sang it all day! We also made a paper plate duck. The idea came from Glued to my Crafts. Instead of tissue paper, we paint! This took a few days because we had to let the paint dry first before adding the eyes and beak. C loves to paint so this was a great project.

Dogs

We also talked about dogs. We had to put our dog down a few months ago, check out the article about pet loss with little ones here, so C has a good understanding of dogs. We talked about the responsibilities that come with dogs. We discussed feeding and washing dogs as well as walking and playing with dogs. C really wants another puppy, but we are gonna wait a bit longer. We read Clifford the Big Red Dog by Norman Birdwell. Check out our Storybook Learning article on activities related to Clifford. We played a game where we fed numbers to the dog in our Feed the Dog game! I told C a number 1-10 and she found that number on the bones and fed that bone to the dog. We also clarified dogs based on colors in this activity from Primary Learning.

Doctors/Dentists

We also talked about doctors and dentists. We talked about the fact that these people are there to help us. Doctors and dentists want to make sure we feel good and work hard to get us feeling better when we hurt or are sick. Oddly enough, this week C had her first Dentist visit. She did great! She went back all on her own and they said she did was very polite and cooperative.

Hannah Prays for a Child

We also read the bible story where Hannah prayed for a child for many years before she finally had a son. We learned that we have to be patient and take everything to God. In His time, He will answer us.
