Unit Eight of Teaching the Bible (a 12-month complete Bible curriculum with hands-on lessons for toddlers and preschoolers), teaches a toddler and preschool child all about Parables and Miracles. By the end, your preschoolers and toddlers will know that God has Grace for Me!
Lesson Overview
There are 5 hands-on Bible lessons for a preschooler or toddler in this unit on Parables and Miracles: the Sower, the Good Samaritan, the Sheep and the Coin Found, the Prodigal Son, and feeding the 5000. The first two lessons together will last a week and the other lessons will be a week on their own with 6 hands-on activities. There are two memory verses for little ones to learn during this unit. These memory verses have motions and posters to help memorize the verses.

The Sower
This first lesson in the parables and miracles unit in the Teaching the Bible, a Bible curriculum for a toddler and preschool child is on the parable of the Sower. This lesson focuses on the story of the farmer who plants his seeds on different types of soil. The goal of this lesson is for your child to know that God has Grace for Me! There is a memory verse for your child to learn with motions and a poster.
The memory verse is:
“But each one of us has received a gift of grace. These gifts are given to us by Christ.”
Ephesians 4:7
One of my favorite activities from this lesson is the Seed Sensory Bin. In this activity, your child will play with bird seed while discussing the story. You can talk about the different types of soil as well as what each soil means in relation to the story as your child plays. They might not even know they are learning about the story!!
The Good Samaritan
The second lesson in the parables and miracles is on the parable of the Good Samaritan. This lesson focuses on the story of the man who is hurt and all those that did not help him as well as the one that did! The goal of this lesson is for your child to know that God has Grace for Me! You will continue to practice the same memory verse. This lesson combines very well with the first lesson to make a full week of activities.
My favorite activity for this lesson is Boo Boo Races. Your kids will love this because they can put on as many bandages as they want. They will race each other or you or even a stop watch to see how many bandages they can put on and go to the finish line. You could even adapt it to have children race to different spots in the house or area to get bandages and then have to keep going until they find all of the bandages. So many different ways to do this activity.
The Sheep and the Coin Found
The third lesson in the parables and miracles is on the parable of the lost sheep and lost coin. This lesson focuses on the two stories and how the owner went out looking for the one lost item. The goal of this lesson is for your child to know that God has Grace for Me! Your child will continue to work on the same memory verse as earlier.
My favorite activity from this lesson is Coin Sorting. This activity will help teach or reenforce previous teaching about different coins. Your child can sort out coins into different piles. You can talk about the difference of the coins. You can also add an extension of the activity by having your child count the coins and determine how much money they have in front of them.
The Prodigal Son
The forth lesson in the parables and miracles in our Bible curriculum for toddler and preschool children is on the parable of the prodigal son. This lesson focuses on the son that left and came home. The goal of this lesson is for your child to know that God has Grace for Me! Your child will learn a new memory verse.
The memory verse is:
“God is full of grace. From him we have all received grace in place of the grace already given.”
John 1:16 NIRV
One of my favorite activities in this unit is Kindness Jar. This is an activity that the whole family can do, which is a great way to expand on your Bible time. In this activity, your child will write out or draw something they have done that was kind or seen that was kind. It is a great way to help your child understand that they can be kind to others and celebrate this kindness.
Feeding the 5000
The lesson on the Feeding of the 5000 is the last lesson in the Parables and Mircales unit of the toddler and preschool Bible Curriculum, Teaching the Bible. This lesson is on when Jesus preformed the miracle of turning 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish into a meal for 5000 people. This lesson uses the last memory verse as well so that your child can fully understand the verse.
My favorite activity from this lesson is Baking Bread. This is a great way to connect the Bible to our everyday life. You can talk about math and science as you mix and bake the bread. After it is made you can talk about how your child could even picture this loaf feeding that many people and what a mircle it was.
