The kids love going to the grocery store, so I setup our own grocery store dramatic play area in our homeschool room. Playing is a great way for kids to learn about the real world around them! We work on real life skills of how to actually grocery shop as well as reading, writing, math, and other social skills all while playing!
First off we needed signs to make our grocery store dramatic play area. So we have our store name and all the departments labeled. The store name sign has a blank spot for your child to name their own store. We were boring people and just used our last name!
Next we needed some sale signs to make it look real! There are four different types of sale signs. These will be great to add math to your grocery store. There are also price tags for you to fill out and put on the different items.
We also have our cash register and cart. C is loving learning about money so she plays with this cash register all the time. She will play with coins all day if I let her. I am excited to start teaching her the names of the coins and how to actually count money soon! There is also a grocery list that if you laminate it can be marked off with a dry erase marker. There is also a blank grocery list for your child to write their own.
There are also name tags included in the pack for you to laminate and your child can write their name when it is their turn to be the clerk or cashier.
We added the food we already had in our play kitchen and C sorted it all to the right departments. We also added a few of our bags we had from other sets as well as some food boxes I saved from the recycling in the last few days! Our shopping cart and make shift shelves finish off the grocery store. I found a shelf in our laundry room we were not using for the main aisles and then added a produce box from our last Costco trip and a create to hold up the meat!
We had a blast playing grocery store and I know we will have some playdates soon so more people can enjoy the grocery store.
