This week we learned the letter W. (Whoa- we are almost done!) We learned about our walrus, water, woodpecker, wind/weather.
W is for Walrus
We started the week by learning about the letter W. We traced it on the board as well as wrote it on our own. C doesn’t really need much practice with her letters anymore. We also learned all about walruses. We learned that they have blubber to help protect them from the cold and we learned that they have long tusks that are actually teeth that are too big for their mouths. We watched walruses on a webcam through Explore.org. I love this site because they have webcams from all over! This walrus cam was from Alaska.

Water
We also talked about water. Since, C loves water, I decided to talk about the different types of water. We learned about ice, liquid water, and steam. She actually does know about steam because her food has steam when it is too hot. We also brought out the water table, because why not!
Woodpecker
We also learned about woodpeckers. Using our Language Development cards found at Abeka.com, we learned that woodpeckers are birds that use their bill to peck holes in trees. This is how they talk to other woodpeckers. We pretended to be woodpeckers by making their tapping noises.
Wind/Weather
Today we talked about wind and weather. We had already addressed weather a bit when we talked about seasons a few weeks ago (read about it here). We did talk about different clothes you should wear based on the weather. C loved the language development card where she talked about the different clothes the kids were wearing based on the weather outside. She is quite the weather woman now. She will be listening to the news in the morning or afternoon and tell us if we are going to have thunderstorms. It is crazy how well she pays attention to the weather during the news. She did glue down different types of weather based on the season on her Abeka worksheet.
