This week we started the letter C using the Abeka 3s curriculum. We learned about cars, cats, camels, and Canada.
Monday

We started the week by learning about cows. C enjoyed learning the different names of the cow family. We traced the letter C on board. C loved that she could make the letter with her hand. We talked about that mommy makes a big C, while she makes a little c. We made our own C is for Cow craft. Grab your template to make your own here! C loved making the dots no the cow and then putting it all together. Her cow’s tail is a little off, but hey she did it herself.
Tuesday
We learned about cars today. We also made our own car wash out of a tissue box. You can read about that here. She had a blast.
Wednesday
Today we learned about cats. We started the day with reading Pete the Cat and The Magic Sunglasses. C loves this book, I mean who doesn’t love Pete the Cat!

We also made fingerprints on our Letter C page to practice our pre-writing skills. C is getting really good at following the lines to make the letters. We have been using a lot of different items to “trace” the letters so that she can learn where to start our letters and how to form different letters. We also did our first follow directions page. When I taught preschool, these were some of the hardest pages for children to understand. The directions say to only color two of the items but all of them look like they should be colored. This is a very difficult concept for 3 year olds, but a great activity to learn how to follow directions. C did a great job! She listened to mommy and only colored the two items that they asked us to color.
We also made our own cat from the letter C. I found the idea at Ducks N a Row. I adapted it a bit for C and she had a blast. We cut out a letter C out of construction paper. I put glue all over it and let her go to town with pom-poms. We then added triangle ears and a triangle nose to the cat. She got to put googly eyes on it and added whiskers as well. She is very proud of her C is for cat. (Alice joined us for this activity!)

Thursday
Today we focused on camels. C loved talking about camels. We learned about their humps on their backs and how they live in the desert. We did a connect the dots activity where we gave a camel two humps. This was the first connect the dot activity for C and she did great. There were lines for her to follow and she stayed right on them. She then colored the camel.
We also sang Alice the Camel. This was by far C’s favorite thing. We found a video online where we could sing together and she did a great job. She loved the end when Alice turned into a horse! She just laughed and laughed. We finished the day by doing a counting activity found at Awesome Teachers’ Teachers-pay-Teachers site. She counted all the camels and circled the right number. We got to the bottom and she even realized that there were two squares that had 5 camels. I am super proud of her and her math skills.

Friday (well Saturday for us)!
We had Canada Day! We finished our week of the letter C with talking about Canada. You can read all about our day here!
