For the last couple of months, I have been taking a new art class from Beyond the Stick Figure Art School called, Beyond the Stick Figure Complete Drawing Course PLUS 3 Bonus Courses. This program is $370 for the entire program and can be used for the entire family!
Since my kids are young, I did this program on my own this time. There are classes in drawing, pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic painting, and 3D design art. I enjoyed all of the courses and learned a lot as I am not an artist!
Great Features
One of the best features of this program is that the videos are super short. I don’t remember any longer than 10 minutes. This makes it super easy for younger children. I will say that some of the videos can be done back to back while others cannot because the art needs to dry between steps. When my daughter is old enough to do this program I will create a spreadsheet with notes if the lessons need a break between them or not so that if she wants to just do an art day then she can. I was able to do the acrylic paint section in a whole week during nap times because my paint dried quickly, but I could see it needing more times if I had used more paint.
Another great feature is that the program builds on itself. At the beginning there are workbook sheets that help guide the learning and as you progress through the program, the skills are built upon previous skills taught.
Other Features to Remember
One feature that can be difficult at first is using the dashboard, but once you learn how to navigate it isn’t too bad. Since each lesson builds on itself, the dashboard is set up so that you have to watch a video before moving onto the next. This can be frustrating at first, but as soon as you figure out how to move through the videos it isn’t bad at all. You may need to create a spreadsheet for you child to remember what lesson they are on if you go through a pre-watch all the videos.
As you can see in the above picture, there is a quick navigation system through the videos and each lesson is marked complete as you watch the videos.
Another feature is the videos are small on a phone (which is what I used the most for the ability to move throughout the house). I was able to make it bigger by closing the navigation on the side and I streamed it to my TV to make it even bigger. A few other times, I used my daughter’s tablet to make it bigger. This wouldn’t have been a problem if we had a laptop, but we don’t own one right now!
Conclusions
After a slight learning curve, I had a blast making all my art projects. I am not an artist by any means and my projects turned out very well. I sent a few pictures to some friends and they were impressed as well.

1. All course videos are open and do not require sequential completion–although we still recommend it.
2. We contacted Vimeo and they have improved the video experience by installing volume control and full screen options on all videos.
3. We added more options to drawing part 2 to help it move along more quickly for younger students.
