Our homeschooling has been a bit disjointed this week, but we managed to squeeze in some fun letter O activities despite having people working on our house. A containment center was set up on the main floor to keep the drywall particles away from me (because I am pregnant). So, we did “crazy school” this week. Here are some highlights!
We played a number review game at work with our friend. The girls had to pick a bumble bee with a number on it and match it to the number on the hive.
We were able to do our O sensory bin in our room the week. She loves singing the song from Abeka as well as looking at the mat that I created for the sensory bin. She matched the pictures on our O card.
We talked about the color yellow. In her Kumon book, she colored a yellow circle on a school bus. She loves school buses, so I was excited to see they used a school bus for yellow. I highly recommend this book for younger children because it focuses on one color at a time before building to multiple colors on a page. It also has the color crayon on the top of the paper so the child doesn’t have to be able to read the color name before working on the page.
Once we were able to get back into our living room/play area, she went right to play with her gears or “ears” as she likes to say. She got these for her birthday a few months ago. She can now do them mostly on her own. It provides great fine motor skills and problem solving skills as she tries to make them all spin.
Since we were talking about O this week, we painted an Ocean scene on a piece of foil. We mixed the colors blue, green, and white as we finger painted. After it dried we added ocean stickers to it. C loves stickers. She worked on getting the backs off of the stickers on her own. I would start these because they were hard to start and then she would rip them off the rest of the way. Yet again, another fine motor skill for her to practice.
We also made an O for owl picture. I glued the O down for her and then she added the feet and the face. She used paint dotters to decorate the owl. I tried to get her to stay on the O only, but that didn’t work so we just went with it and decorated the whole paper.
We also traced our number 2 and number 3 worksheets. This is an edited page from Homeschool Solutions with Pam Barnhill. I will let her trace the big numbers and then “help” her by holding the crayon over her hand to trace the smaller numbers.
